The Search for a Director of Nature-Risk Analytics for a Series-B Climate Tech

The Challenge

Risilience is a Cambridge-based, Series B company whose climate-analytics technology enables business transformation to a low-carbon economy with its award-winning climate-intelligence SaaS platform.

The multidisciplinary Risilience team sits at the cross section of academia, corporate-risk management and sustainability, enabling major global enterprises to mitigate the financial impact of tomorrow, while taking advantage of the opportunities today.

Having recruited a number of roles across climate risk modelling, client solutions, and customer success as they have grown through Series A and B rounds, we were tasked with the search for their Director of Nature-Risk Analytics.

The Recruitment Approach

This was a very niche role, with a very specific skillset and remit to lead a modeling team and develop models to assess nature, build forward-looking nature scenarios and distill these complex scientific concepts into quantified nature-related financial impacts. The Cambridge location also made the search more limited.

This mandate required a deep search to identify candidates from a variety of backgrounds with the right blend of experience, seniority and fit. Understanding where these skillsets sat and in which organisations was key to finding the right people.

The Outcome

The successful candidate, Mary Goldman had previously worked in Cambridge, but more recently was with a Big 4 consultancy in London. Mary had the perfect blend of quantitative and commercial experience to succeed in the role and was perfectly aligned in terms of culture, mission, values and career goals.

We are delighted for both Mary and the Risilience team, and happy that we found such a strong fit for both.

"It was a real pleasure working with Chris and his team. Not only did they manage to find the perfect candidate for the role we wanted to fill in an extremely niche space, modelling nature-related risks, they always made sure both sides were fully briefed throughout the entire process.

This ensured expectations were maintained on both sides, and we could get on with getting to know each other better."
